Henning Vöpel has been director of the Hamburg Institute of International Economics (HWWI) since 2014. Prior to that, he headed the research areas of the economy and the global economy. In 2010, Vöpel was appointed Professor of Economics at HSBA Hamburg School of Business Administration. His research and main topics are economic analysis, monetary policy, financial markets and digital economy.
After studying economics at the University of Hamburg, Prof. Vöpel obtained his doctorate in 2004 with a thesis on the “stabilization effects of monetary policy”.
In 2006, Vöpel participated twice in the so-called “Joint Diagnosis” of the leading economic research institutes on behalf of the German Federal Government. In 2009, he was invited by the US Department of State as part of the International Leadership Program to spend a research stay in Washington, DC, San Francisco and Boston.
Henning is teaching Microeconomics, Macroeconomics, International Economics and Game Theory at the HSBA.
